Showcasing the quality and function of the Pro Tech Toolkit

UX/UI Design, Art Direction, E-Commerce
Project Overview
We wanted to create a different type of product page for the Pro Tech Toolkit (iFixit's hero product) that showcased both the quality of the toolkit and the functions of the tools.

I collaborated with the in-house video team to create a video as the lead visual. My goals for the video were to not only highlight each tool’s function by showing them in action for different types of repairs but to also make the idea of tech repair more approachable by showing a diversity of people doing the repairs.

To knock any notion that the tools were just white labeled products, I included a slideshow to showcase the work that goes into creating and testing the tools. Again, putting emphasis on quality.

Lead Video

The main visual for the page was a video that showcases each tool of the Pro Tech Toolkit.

I wanted show a diversity of repairs with each tool to give consumers an idea of the range of devices and products the you could fix with the Pro Tech Toolkit.

Each shot shows a wide shot of the person repairing and a closeup of the actual repair and tool’s function. I wanted to make the idea of repair less intimidating to new consumers by showing people actually using the tools instead of using static, posed images.

Toolroll Opening Video

The idea with the toolroll opening video was to reveal the contents to the user as if they actually opening it in front of them for the first time.

Toolroll Opening Rig Video

We didn’t have the ability in-house or budget to create this with 3D. We decided to go with an overhead video. However, I didn’t want show anyone’s hands in the shot. So, with a little help, I built a rig that would  be easier to remove in post production and created minimum shadows on the tool roll.
